In the DR Congo we support people in the South Kivu and North Kivu provinces with the following activities, among others:
We distribute collected school materials to primary and secondary schools in the project area to sustainably improve learning conditions. Handovers are carried out in close cooperation with our local partners who know the schools’ needs well, ensuring support reaches where it is most urgently needed.
In cooperation with the I.S.T.D. Kalehe institute, we support the expansion of educational offerings, including donations in kind, improved equipment and infrastructure, and co-financing of new buildings. The curriculum focuses on agricultural and forestry subjects for sustainable regional development.
We promote training projects for skilled trades such as dressmaking, carpentry and metalwork, and support the establishment of workshops with donations in kind. Since 2019, together with I.S.T.D. Kalehe, we have enabled young women in particular to train as seamstresses and set up their own sewing workshops in the villages.
Together with local partners, we install solar systems at schools and hospitals to create a reliable energy supply. We also train local specialists in the operation, maintenance and servicing of the systems.
By working with schools, training centres, NGOs and cooperatives, we strengthen local networks and social structures. One example is a garden project implemented with the agricultural expertise of I.S.T.D. Kalehe, contributing to the self-sufficiency of an orphanage in Goma.
The population of South and North Kivu has been affected by war and displacement for decades. To improve living conditions, we collect medical supplies and nutritional supplements and distribute them to hospitals, orphanages and refugee camps.
